Game of Thrones is one of those shows that seems perfectly cast. When the series began, most of the actors involved were unknowns (especially in America). There were exceptions, of course, like Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage, but much of what made Thrones initially successful was its unheralded cast. Fans believed these actors were their beloved literary characters come alive, in part, because they had never seen them before in anything else. It's funny how TV and movies work that way. What's funnier is these same characters could've been played by an entirely different cast. Imagine Gillian Anderson, for instance, as Cersei Lannister, or Danny DeVito as Tyrion! Okay, we made that second one up. Peter Dinklage was always destined to play Tyrion. But DeVito could've been good...

Nina Gold is the Thrones casting director and she's done an incredible job making stars out the likes of Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington. But she did have some tough choices to make when it came to the final cuts. (She also failed to entice some other actors.) Here's a look at some famous faces who either auditioned, were considered, or were asked to try out for Game of Thrones.
